E-69 LAST ROAD ON EARTH

What is E-69 ?

E69 is an E-road on European route between Olderfjord and North Cape in northern Norway. One of the dream spot for many adventures travelers. This road is 129km long. It has five tunnels, total distance of tunnels is 15.5 km. The North Cape Tunnel is the longest one 6.9 km long and reaches 212m below sea level. E69 is the northernmost road on the earth which has connections to a major international road network. In the winter months the northern most part of the road (Skarsvåg - North Cape) is used only for convoys, driving at fix times, if weather permits.

A lot of questions comes in our minds from childhood. Is there any end to the sky? Where on this earth does the road end? There is no road from any Location! Europe’s ‘E-69 Highway’ is the last road on earth.

Why is nobody permitted to go alone on this E 69 road?

Because of  its unique geographical location of existence, the last road on earth is subject to high wind and extreme cold. The weather is  unpredictable here. You have snow even in summers. It passes near the coastline, due to which weather becomes more unpredictable as it can changes suddenly in a very drastic way.

It is amazing to see the polar lights of the North Pole, adventurers traveler dream of walking the last road of the world once in life time. It is located in the Northern Hemisphere, at the top of the equator.

Driving on this road is not advised when it is  heavy snow and rain as storms are quite common here. As weather conditions are unusual here, travelers are not allowed to drive alone on E 69 highway. There is always a risk of getting lost due to thick sheets of snow lying everywhere.

Everybody must have heard about the North Pole, It is the farthest northern point of the Earth. This is the point from which the Earth's axis rotates. It is the end of Norway. The road leading from here is considered to be the last road in the world.  It connects the ends of the earth and Norway. From here  there is no road ahead.  and there is the sea all around and only the ice is visible.

We may be surprised to know that people live here despite such a cold conditions. Earlier only fish trading was here. The place started to develop  from 1930 onwards. In 1934, the people of this area decided that the tourists will be allowed here so that they could have a another source of income. Now a days people from all over the world come here for visiting the North Pole. Here tourist feels like being in a another world. Here, the view of the sunset and the making of polar lights in the sky is great to watch. Polar lights are also known as 'auroras'. It can be seen at night when there is a dark shadow in the sky. Here in the deep blue sky, sometimes pink and sometimes green light can be seen.

Coming here is like "Dream come true"
